Working Chance – the UK’s only specialist recruitment consultancy for women with convictions and young women care leavers – recently held their first employability event of 2017 at HMP East Sutton Park. Corporate volunteers from 12 employers came together with women prisoners for an afternoon of practice ‘speed-interviews’ and group presentation activities. The event was not just a valuable opportunity for the women to practise their interview technique and disclosing their conviction to real employers, but also provided an often much-needed confidence boost.
Working Chance’s employability events are designed to break down the misconceptions and stereotypes surrounding women with convictions, bringing them together with employers for an enjoyable and rewarding afternoon of team-building exercises and networking. “Working Chance’s employability session changed my opinion of working with women with convictions,” said one employer. “I realise that Working Chance’s candidates all have a past but, most importantly, they have a future – and a right to make the most of any opportunity.”
Working Chance is also excited to announce that they are now a recruitment partner of major sports brand Nike. Several of their candidates attended a Nike assessment day at the crack of dawn on a Sunday, and Working Chance are delighted that two of them came out top of the 85 people assessed! This is a real credit to the hard work of their team in ensuring that the women they work with are more than just work-ready – that they are a valuable asset to any employer, and can be confident in securing a job they love.
