The Law in Action programme on Radio 4 on 24 November included (at 6.20 minutes) an article about mums behind bars. It is a brilliant broadcast highlighting the very effective and cost efficient support that women’s centres provide. It features Adela Snape and her daughter talking about the implications of Adela’s imprisonment on her children’s lives, the help that Adela received from Anawim Women’s Centre in Birmingham and the break that this brought in her cycle of reoffending. Juliet Lyons the Director of the Prison Reform Trust talks about their latest report, on the unnecessary imprisonment of women (details in the article above) and Andrea Albutt, the new president of the Prison Governors Association also speaks about the issue.
