This summer HMP Holloway – the largest women’s prison in Western Europe and the only women’s prison in London – will close and the land sold for redevelopment.
Hundreds of new homes can be built there but if we don’t take action this public land will be sold to a private developer for flats and housing that very few people can afford.
Women in Prison are calling on the Government and the London Mayor’s office to ensure the land is retained for desperately needed council housing.
HMP Holloway’s closure is also an opportunity to protect and invest in community facilities and women’s support services such as for domestic violence and mental health, all of which are at the sharp end of austerity and in short supply. These support services are vital to help keep women out of prison and prevent reoffending.
Please join the campaign and demand the site at HMP Holloway, and/or any profit from its sale, is dedicated to provide housing that is genuinely affordable for all and results in investment for community facilities and women’s support services.
