This summary contains details of UK Government parliamentary debates, announcements and legislative changes relevant to women, criminal justice system and the women’s community sector in England.

Highlights this month:

  • Following Theresa May being elected leader of the Conservative party following June’s referendum a new cabinet has been formed, including the appointment ofElizabeth Truss MP as Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice.   • The Policing and Crime Bill received its second reading in the House of Lords on 18 July 2016.
  • The Public Accounts Committee has been conducting an inquiry intoTransforming Rehabilitation which Women’s Breakout submitted written evidence to.
