Women’s Breakout represents organisations working with women who have offended and those who are at risk of offending. Its vision is to see gender specific approaches integrated into mainstream rehabilitation provision thereby contributing to a significant reduction in the number of women in custody and a reduction in the number of those coming into contact with the criminal justice system.
Through our members, women with multiple and complex needs who have access to such services will be supported and empowered to take responsibility for themselves and their families and to make positive life changes.
Membership is open to voluntary and community sector organisations that divert women from the Criminal Justice System through the provision of holistic, women centred, community based services. These organisations must be either:
Women only voluntary and community sector organisations, being organisations that are established for the purpose of providing services for the benefit of vulnerable women and their families; and where a majority of services provided are exclusively for women; or:
Voluntary and community sector organisations that are running women only projects, being projects providing services for the benefit of vulnerable women and their families; and where a majority of services provided by the project are exclusively for women;
We also accept into our membership any organisation or individual that supports the aims of Women’s Breakout; and into associate membership organisations that provide alternatives to custody for women, divert women from the Criminal Justice System and reduce reoffending by women; or organisations that deliver women only services.
Role of the Trustee
Trustees are responsible for overseeing the delivery of the mission of the organisation as outlined above. They hold staff to account for this delivery and represent the views of the members and the organisation as appropriate.
We are currently recruiting trustees to join our board. We welcome applications from all who have the time, commitment and passion to help us realise the organisational vision. Specifically there is a vacancy for the role of treasurer. Those with legal, HR, Fundraising or marketing expertise would also be welcomed.
The board of trustees meet every 6 weeks. Meetings generally take place in London. As Women’s Breakout is a small organisation employing only 3 staff, trustees who are able to offer support outside these meetings and lead task and finish groups around specific projects would be welcomed.
For more information or to apply for the post please contact Sarah Swindley (email@example.com) Chair of the Trustee Board or Jackie Russell (Jackie.firstname.lastname@example.org) Director of Women’s Breakout.
