Geese Theatre Company is a team of theatre practitioners who present interactive theatre and facilitate drama-based group work, staff training and consultation for the probation service, prisons, young offender institutions, youth offending teams, secure hospitals and related agencies throughout the UK and abroad.
The company’s work with women takes place across the secure prison estate and in forensic hospital settings. Recently, funding has been secured to continue working with community based organisations, such as WAITS( Women Acting In Today’s Society) in Birmingham, where Geese have just delivered a project entitled Forward. This three-year project, funded by Barrow Cadbury Trust and The Sheldon Trust supports vulnerable women who are at risk or involved in the criminal justice system. It uses creative methods to enable women to explore their own journey, providing opportunities to recognise strategies, develop skills and set goals to move forward with their lives. As with all of its work, Geese encourages participants to see themselves as individuals rather than as ‘offender’ and provides a space for people to explore making positive changes in their lives.
